Edo/Ondo Polls: Adhere To Election Guidelines – INEC Tells Parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the promotion of 5,196 members of its staff nationwide, according to a bulletin released on Thursday, News About Nigeria reports.

The promotions cut across various levels within the commission’s structure.

A detailed breakdown of the figures revealed that 55 Deputy Directors in Grade Level 16 were elevated to the rank of Directors in Grade Level 17.

Additionally, 54 Assistant Directors on Grade Level 15 were promoted to the Deputy Director Cadre on Grade Level 16.

The commission also implemented the promotion of 338 officers in Grade Level 14 to Assistant Directors in Grade Level 15.

The majority of the promotions, totaling 4,749 officers, occurred within the Grade Levels 7 to 13 range.

In a related development, four directors of the Independent National Electoral Commission have been directed to proceed on terminal leave.

The decision, as disclosed in a statement by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, was based on a directive from the Federal Government through a circular issued on July 27, 2023.

The circular stated that directors with eight years or more of service should retire from the public sector.

Two of the directors who proceeded on terminal leave had served as Heads of Departments at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, while the other two were deployed as Administrative Secretaries in the State Offices.

However, Olumekun clarified that clinical officers in the medical cadre were exempted from the Federal Government Retirement Policy, citing Circular MH 7205/T31 dated September 7, 2023.

The INEC commissioner, however, did not give the names of the affected directors and wished them the best as they retired from active service.
