Corruption: LASTMA Dismisses 5 Officers, Reprimands 2

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the dismissal of five officers and reprimand of two others for their involvement in corruption and misconduct while performing their duties in the state.

This revelation was made in a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, on Sunday.

News About Nigeria gathered that in a meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023, the Lagos State Civil Service Commission approved the disciplinary procedures against the seven LASTMA officers who were indicted, according to the statement.

Five officers were issued letters of termination for corruption, while the remaining two received letters of reprimand for unauthorised absence from duty.

“This is necessary for all of us to promote a Greater Lagos for the benefit of all and for the realisation of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation),” the statement read.

In order to help improve the agency’s operations, Bakare Oki, the acting general manager of LASTMA, urged the public to share their experiences and provide relevant proof concerning alleged misdemeanours.

He added that the disciplinary measures taken are in line with the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

Oki stated, “The cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are awaiting further administrative review.”

He urged people to follow the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018 and gave his word that grievances will be looked into quickly via proper channels.

Oki promised that these complaints would be looked into impartially and quickly to maintain Greater Lagos in accordance with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s goals.
