Nigeria@63: FG Declares October 2 Public Holiday To Mark Independence Day

The Federal Government has officially declared Monday, October 2, as a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day celebration, News About Nigeria reports.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In his statement, Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, on this significant occasion.

He also assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to addressing the various challenges facing the country, which include, socio-economic and security issues. He encouraged that these people’s challenges are not unique to Nigeria but are global concerns as well.

The minister emphasized that the Nigerian government is actively working to confront these challenges and called for unity among citizens to achieve the nation’s greatness.

He highlighted Nigeria’s prominent position in the global community and its potential to be a leading black nation, making it Africa’s pride and a beacon of hope for the “Renewed Hope” envisioned by President Bola Tinubu.

Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to the citizens for a memorable independence celebration. He recalled the unity and collective efforts of Nigeria’s founding fathers, who came together despite differences in faith, tribe, and language to secure the country’s freedom, which is cherished today.

The minister also reaffirmed the present administration’s commitment to creating a better Nigeria for all citizens through the “Renew Hope” agenda, as a fitting tribute to the nation’s heroes of the past.

To mark the occasion, various events have been scheduled, including a lecture, Juma’at Prayer, an address by President Bola Tinubu, an Inter-Denominational Church Service, and a Military Parade..
