President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former presidential candidate Peter Obi have expressed sorrow over the passing of Prince Doyin Okupe, a seasoned politician, strategist, and medical doctor.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to Okupe’s family, friends, and associates, acknowledging his contributions to national development.
He described Okupe as a bold and articulate advocate whose experience and insight remained invaluable to the country.
News About Nigeria gathered that Tinubu highlighted Okupe’s extensive political career, which spanned over three decades.
Okupe previously served as the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC), played key roles in the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later became the national leader of the Accord Party.
He was also the Director-General of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign for the 2023 election.
Beyond politics, Okupe made significant contributions to the medical field as the co-founder of Royal Cross Medical Centre, Lagos, and the publisher of Life Mirror, a health-focused newspaper.
The President commiserated with the government and people of Ogun State, particularly the Iperu-Remo community, acknowledging the void his death leaves behind.
Similarly, Peter Obi described Okupe’s passing as a shocking and profound loss, not just to his family but to the nation.
In his tribute, Obi recognized Okupe as an active political figure who was committed to building a better Nigeria.
Obi urged members of the Obidient Movement and other well-wishers to pray for Okupe’s family during this difficult time.
“May God Almighty, who called him home, grant him eternal rest and grant his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this sad and irreplaceable loss,” Obi said.
