The Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has dismissed speculations circulating in certain media outlets that he intends to run for the position of the nation’s third-ranking official during the upcoming inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

News About Nigeria reports that there have been rumors suggesting that the current Senate President has joined the group of aspirants vying for the esteemed position in order to secure a second term in office.

However, Lawan, in a personally signed statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, refuted these claims and asserted his commitment to the zoning arrangements agreed upon by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He emphasized that he would never go against these arrangements.

Lawan firmly stated that he has never expressed his desire or held any meetings indicating his intention to participate in the race for the Presidency of the 10th Senate.

He urged the public to disregard the reports.

In his statement, Lawan addressed the media reports, saying, “I have come across certain media reports stating that I have entered the race for the Presidency of the 10th Senate. While I would typically not respond to such reports, allowing falsehoods to go unchallenged can give them an air of credibility.”

He continued, “The truth of the matter is that I have neither informed anyone nor held any meetings indicating my candidacy for the Presidency of the 10th Senate. Therefore, I urge the public to dismiss these reports.”

Lawan highlighted his role within the leadership of the APC and his dedication to resolving the numerous challenges arising from the leadership contests within the 10th National Assembly.

He affirmed his unwavering focus on these matters.

It should be noted that Lawan previously contested the presidential primary election of the APC last year.

However, he secured fourth place, following the winner and current President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi (who attained second position), and the outgoing vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who placed third in the contest.
