The Federal Government has resolved the passport printing challenges at Nigeria’s consulates in Atlanta and New York.
The issue which had caused delays and frustration among Nigerians was addressed after the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in January 2025 to provide new passport printers.
According to Babatunde Alao, the minister’s media adviser, the printers were delivered and installed on February 18, 2025.
News About Nigeria reports that this development comes after complaints from Nigerians in the diaspora about delays in passport processing.
With the new machines now in place, applicants in both cities can expect a faster and smoother passport application process.
The installation is part of broader efforts to improve service delivery, including ongoing reforms such as the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of contactless solutions.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to making passport services more efficient for Nigerians at home and abroad.
“The machines have now been delivered and installed yesterday, February 18, 2025.
“The ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad.
“In addition, the development reflects the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.
“With these new printers, Nigerians in Atlanta and New York can expect a faster and more efficient passport application process,” Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister said in a statement.
