Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, and his wife, Chizoba, who were kidnapped on Friday along the Edo-Kogi road on their way to Abuja, have finally regained their freedom.
News About Nigeria earlier reported that the kidnappers fatally shot one of the Commissioner’s aides, ABK Offiah, who was travelling with them.
They were said to have been travelling to Abuja to attend the wedding ceremony of Adaora, the daughter of the Anambra state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
Their release from the kidnappers’ den was confirmed by the Anambra state government on Sunday afternoon.
According to Christian Aburime, the Press secretary to Governor Soludo, Aghamba and his wife were released on Saturday night.
Giving details on their release, Aburime revealed no ransom was paid for their release as their release was achieved through divine intervention.
He said, “The commissioner and his wife have been released by the special grace of God. We were able to secure his release and no ransom was paid.”
Aburime further noted that the Anambra state government is grateful to God for the intervention and the subsequent release of the couple.
He, however, did not speak about the commissioner’s aide, who was killed by the abductors.
Recall that no fewer than 20 medical students from the University of Jos were also kidnapped in Otukpo, Benue State, on Thursday evening.
The students are still held hostage at the time of this report as some of them have been tweeting on X, calling on Nigerians to intervene as the kidnappers are demanding N20m as ransom.
