Earlier today, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to a serious accident, rescuing a trapped driver and his assistant from under a mini-truck loaded with pure water.
News About Nigeria reports that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, confirmed that the accident occurred near Adeniji inward Sura, descending from the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
Hon. Giwa stated that the accident involved a Pure Water Mini Truck (SMK 796 YE) and two Mazda vehicles (AGL 576 TG and AKD 531 YC).
Giwa said preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the mini-truck lost control due to brake failure, colliding with the two Mazda cars.
Despite the government’s ongoing campaign to educate motorists about speed limits and the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly the braking system, Hon. Giwa noted that drivers continue to flout the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
He urged all drivers, including truck operators and private car owners, to avoid speeding and to check their vehicles before driving within and outside the state.
Giwa added tht the injured driver and his assistant were immediately taken to the hospital by the truck’s owner.
LASTMA personnel promptly cleared all accident vehicles to ensure a free flow of traffic towards Lagos Island.
Hon. Sola Giwa emphasised the importance of safety while driving and expressed his sympathies to those injured in the accident.
In a similar development, a tragic accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos last Saturday morning resulted in the loss of one life.
News About Nigeria reported that the collision involved a Mini Truck with the license plate number MUS 489 XS and a Toyota Camry with the license plate number KRD 470 JD.
Giwa said that the deceased was promptly removed by State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) officials, while LASTMA cleared the accident vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow on the bridge.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasised the importance of road safety.
