President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, May 23, for N’Djamena, the Republic of Chad, to attend the inauguration of President Mahamat Déby.

This recent development was disclosed on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngalale, News About Nigeria gathered.

According to the statement, the inauguration of President Déby follows his declaration as the winner of the country’s presidential election earlier this month and subsequent affirmation by the Constitutional Court of Chad.

President Tinubu who is also the chairman of ECOWAS will be accompanied on the trip by senior government officials to return after the ceremony.

This development comes after President Tinubu’s recent return to Nigeria from Europe, putting an end to days of speculation and concern over his whereabouts.

The President had embarked on trips to the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.

The publication earlier reported that his media handlers’ initial silence only added to the speculation, with some wondering if he had traveled to Paris, France, for medical treatment, as he had done in the past.

However, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, later put the rumours to rest, announcing on his social media handle that the President would soon return to Nigeria. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with his aides, will return to Nigeria tomorrow from Europe,” he wrote.

Additionally, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, assured Nigerians that the President’s absence was not related to his health.

Before the announcement of the latest travel, Ngalale announced that President Tinubu had approved the appointment of Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and Dr. Adedeji Ashiru as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA).
