Atiku Reacts To Hike In Electricity Tariff, Advices Tinubu

Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has declared his intention to continue contesting for the presidency as long as he remains healthy and alive.

News About Nigeria reports that the northern politician disclosed in a recent interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America.

When asked if he would contest again, Atiku stated, “Of course, I will keep contesting again and again as long as I am alive and healthy.”

He drew inspiration from former US President Abraham Lincoln, who contested seven times before finally winning.

Atiku noted that Lincoln’s perseverance and determination ultimately led to his success, and he hopes to emulate this example.

However, Atiku acknowledged that the current state of the PDP requires strong support and collaboration with other parties to win the election. According to him, there is need for unity within the party and forming alliances with other political groups to achieve victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Atiku, who will be 81 by the next presidential election, has contested for the presidency six times and has been on the ballot as a presidential candidate on three occasions – 2007, 2019, and 2023. Despite his previous losses, he remains undeterred and committed to his vision for Nigeria.

The former Vice President also addressed the crisis within the PDP, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation with other political parties.

Recall that few days ago, Atiku pledged to back Peter Obi if the party chooses to reserve its 2027 presidential ticket for the South-East region.

He stated that he has always maintained that if the PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South or South-East specifically, he will not contest it.

“If the party decides that it’s the turn of the South-East and Peter Obi is chosen, I won’t hesitate to support him,” Atiku said.

It is also worth recalling that Atiku met with Obi last week, and both leaders assured that there is no misunderstanding between them.
