The Jigawa State Government has approved a budget of over N1.4 billion for the construction and renovation of mosques, as well as the fencing of graveyards in 30 constituencies across the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The decision was made by the State Executive Council, according to Mr. Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sport, and Culture.

In addition to mosque projects, part of the allocated funds will be used for the construction of palaces for district heads in the state.

The commissioner clarified that the approved N1.4 billion is earmarked for the implementation of 2023 constituency projects.

Furthermore, the Jigawa State Government has announced the approval of a wage award of N10,000 for state and local government civil servants.

This decision, disclosed by the Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmed, comes after deliberations on a memorandum presented by the State Head of Civil Service for the payment of salary awards to Jigawa State Civil Servants.

Effective January 2024, the salary award of N10,000 will be disbursed to each civil servant in the state for three months.

This initiative is seen as a palliative measure pending the signing into law of a new national minimum wage, following the agreement between the Federal Government and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on a N35,000 wage award for civil servants after the removal of fuel subsidy.

According to him, “The State Executive Council has, after its deliberations, approved the sum of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) to each civil servant in the state for three months, effective January 2024, as a salary award.

“The award for the Jigawa State Civil Servants (both state and local government workers) pending when a new national minimum wage is expected to have been signed into law and other palliative.”
