Government Refineries More Beneficial To Nigerians - NUPENG

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has stated that the government-owned refineries will be more beneficial to Nigerians than others, News About Nigeria reports.

The Zonal Chairman of NUPENG Warri, Comrade Chief Innocent Iyere, made this known while speaking with newsmen on Monday.

He noted that the government-owned refineries would be of more benefit when they begin production and therefore urged the Federal Government to complete the work it has begun in the refineries.

He commended President Bola Tinubu on the work that was ongoing at the Warri refinery in Delta State, maintaining that if the work continues at the pace at which it was going, the refinery may resume production this year.

“The last time I was at the Warri refinery, they were working. Production may resume there if they continue at the pace at which they are working. It is the government refinery that will help the citizens more,” he said.

Speaking on the Dangote refinery that is scheduled to commence production by the end of the month, Iyere stated that it was a welcome development, adding that it will increase the supply of petroleum products when both the government and Dangote’s refinery commence production.

He urged the federal government not to slow down its pace of work on its refineries, stressing that the Dangote refinery remained a private one with the intent of making a profit.

Chief Iyere stated that he was optimistic that the Dangote refinery will no doubt affect pricing, adding that in a normal setting, surpluses in commodities lead to a reduction in price.
