Edo 2024: Kwankwaso Drums Support For NNPP

Alhaji Wasiu Ajirotutu, the recently appointed National Vice Chairman (South West) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has launched a scathing critique against Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, branding him a political liability.

News About Nigeria understands Ajirotutu assumed his role as the NNPP’s South West Chairman following the decision by the Board of Trustees (BoT) to remove the Kwakwasya faction of the National Working Committee and suspend the former Kano governor for a period of six months.

Speaking in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Ajirotutu accused Kwankwaso of exploiting the party’s reputation by forming alliances with other political parties and their candidates for personal gain.

He stated, “Kwankwaso cajoled us as if he was contesting for the presidency, whereas he was a pretender and not a contender. It’s regrettable that the same Kwankwaso is now accusing our founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, of engaging in anti-party activities.”

Ajirotutu went further, challenging Kwankwaso to deny meeting with Bola Tinubu, the then standard bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC), just four days before the presidential election.

He asserted that Kwankwaso’s meeting with Tinubu constituted a grave breach of party loyalty and trust.

The NNPP chieftain underscored that the BoT’s decision to suspend Kwankwaso was in line with the party’s core values and principles aimed at maintaining discipline within its ranks.

Additionally, Ajirotutu expressed his commitment to actively involve NNPP members in the South West region in all party activities.

As this internal strife unfolds within the NNPP, Kwankwaso has remained silent to the allegations leveled on him by the party’s new leadership.
