Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has stated that if President Bola Tinubu breaks his campaign pledges, he will be ready to criticize him.

Fayose disclosed this to State House Correspondents shortly after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Thursday, News About Nigeria gathered.

He said: “If Asiwaju turns back on his promise, all he said when he was campaigning, I will be the first to talk. I am not timid,”.

However, he remarked that Tinubu had done well since taking office and should be commended.

Fayose said that now that the elections are over, Nigerians must gather around the president, whom he described as awake and ready to address the country’s challenges.

“The steps so far taken can readily give us the direction of this government. Elections have come and gone, without prejudice to the courts.

“But it’s no more time for campaigning or selling a political party, it is time to govern Nigeria for the benefit of children yet unborn and those of us that are still here and to equally let you know that I had a very wonderful time with the President.

“You will see him very alert and very clear in the direction he wants to take the country, but he can’t do it alone, he needs all of us,” said Fayose.

Fayose was elected as Ekiti’s second governor on May 29, 2003, after defeating incumbent Governor Niyi Adebayo in gubernatorial elections. He was unable to complete his term due to an impeachment on October 16, 2006.

Fayose was the PDP’s candidate for governor of Ekiti State in 2014.

He won the election and was declared the new Governor of Ekiti State by the Independent National Electoral Commission for a second term.
Dr Kayode Fayemi, the then-incumbent governor, acknowledged defeat and was among the first to congratulate Mr Fayose on his victory. Fayose took office on October 16, 2014.

Fayose is the only Nigerian to have defeated an incumbent twice.
