President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched the National Economic Council (NEC), marking the beginning of its operations, News About Nigeria reports.
The ceremony took place in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with Vice President Kashim Shettima leading the Council.
In attendance were Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and all 36 Governors of the Federation.
During the inauguration, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of collaboration among the governors and urged them to utilize the resources at the local government level to accelerate the development of infrastructure.
Recognizing the significant challenges faced by the nation, he stressed the need for swift reforms and assured the governors that the people of the country are supportive of their efforts.
“Both you and I have advocated for this council. We campaigned for it, and we were even jubilant about it. Therefore, we have no reason to complain. The citizens of our nation stand with us and demand reforms that are promptly implemented. As stakeholders, let us embrace collaboration without hesitation. It is not a crime. Let us work together,” President Tinubu expressed.
The NEC, a key advisory body, is tasked with advising the president on economic policies, strategies, and initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria.
As the nation faces numerous challenges, including infrastructure deficiencies and economic instability, the Council’s role becomes crucial in formulating and implementing effective solutions.
The establishment of the NEC reflects the government’s commitment to addressing these challenges by promoting cooperation between the federal and state governments.
By bringing together leaders from various levels of governance, the Council aims to facilitate effective communication, coordination, and decision-making processes, ultimately leading to improved economic outcomes.
In his address, President Tinubu acknowledged the expectations placed upon the Council by the Nigerian people, who desire tangible and timely reforms.
The president’s call for collaboration among the governors highlights the significance of collective action in achieving meaningful progress.
By pooling resources, sharing expertise, and leveraging the potential of local governments, the governors can spearhead transformative changes that positively impact the lives of citizens across the nation.
