Following the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the Department of State Security (DSS) to invite Bawa for further investigation, News About Nigeria reports.

The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, confirmed this in a statement released on Wednesday night.

According to the statement, Abdulrasheed Bawa has already arrived at the DSS headquarters in compliance with the invitation.

This move comes after President Tinubu suspended Bawa, citing the need for a comprehensive investigation into his conduct while in office.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued by Willie Basse, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The decision to invite Bawa for questioning underscores the government’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in public service.

By initiating an investigation into his conduct, the authorities aim to ensure that any potential wrongdoing is thoroughly examined, and appropriate actions are taken based on the findings.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, a seasoned law enforcement officer, was appointed as the Chairman of the EFCC in February 2021.

During his tenure, he embarked on several initiatives to combat financial crimes, including efforts to recover illicitly acquired assets and prosecute high-profile individuals involved in corruption.

His suspension, however, has raised questions about the allegations that necessitated such action.

The specifics of the allegations against Bawa have not been disclosed in the statement, leaving room for speculation and public debate.

It is expected that the investigation conducted by the DSS will shed light on the nature and extent of the allegations against the former EFCC chairman.
