Seun Kuti, the son of the renowned Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, fulfilled his promise on Monday by visiting the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, as a means of cooperating with the authorities, News About Nigeria reports.

Present alongside Seun Kuti was Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, a prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

As of the time of reporting, they were still engaged in discussions with the police commissioner.

A source confirmed the meeting, stating, “Seun Kuti and a senior lawyer, Olumide Fusika, have gone to meet the Commissioner of Police in Lagos. They are currently there,” which was revealed on Monday morning.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, had previously issued an arrest order for Seun following the circulation of a video depicting the musician assaulting a police officer.

Seun was captured in a widely shared video engaged in a heated dispute with a police officer standing amidst a crowded road.

According to a statement by Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba has ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the underlying reasons behind the assault.

The suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.

The IGP assured Nigerians that any act showing contempt or disrespect towards authority figures will not be tolerated.

Those who commit such appalling crimes will be held accountable and face legal consequences, as emphasized by the police spokesman.

Meanwhile, Seun Kuti took to his Instastory on Saturday to express his thoughts on the matter.

He claimed that the officer had attempted to harm him and his family, but added that the policeman had apologized and he had chosen to forgive him.

In his statement, Kuti wrote, “He attempted to cause harm to me and my family. I possess the evidence, but I am not seeking attention. He has apologized, and I have agreed not to pursue legal action. I urge everyone to mind their own business so that the young man doesn’t lose his job.”
