The Supreme Court has scheduled a judgment to be delivered on Tuesday, May 9, regarding the disputed governorship election that took place in Osun State on July 16, News About Nigeria reports.
In this election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, a candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, contested this decision and subsequently approached the Supreme Court.
During the proceedings on Monday, Oyetola’s legal representative urged the court to uphold the ruling of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which recognized Adeleke as the rightful winner of the election, while disregarding the judgment made by the appeal court.
The Supreme Court, consisting of a panel of five judges, considered the arguments put forth by the lawyers representing the involved parties before announcing the designated date for the judgment.
The decision of the Supreme Court, in this case, carries immense significance, as it will determine the final outcome of the disputed governorship election in Osun State.
Both the APC and PDP have eagerly awaited this judgment, as it will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of the state. The ruling will establish the legitimacy of either Adeleke or Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun State.
The anticipation surrounding this judgment stems from the fact that it will provide a resolution to the prolonged electoral dispute and conclusively determine the rightful winner of the governorship election.
Once the Supreme Court delivers its judgment, it will serve as the final verdict on the matter, putting an end to any further legal challenges or contentions regarding the election result.
