A former boxer, Moses Olapade, has been accused of assaulting his wife, Tinuke Olapade, over a disagreement about a television remote control.

The incident reportedly occurred in their home located at Oke-Aro Community in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, News About Nigeria reports.

According to sources close to the couple, Moses had returned from a journey and wanted to watch a particular program on television. However, his wife, Tinuke, did not give him the remote control to tune in to his preferred channel. This resulted in an argument that quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

Moses, who is also a truck driver, allegedly punched his wife several times, causing her to fall down and become unconscious. The couple’s children raised the alarm, and neighbors rushed Tinuke to a nearby hospital, where she was resuscitated.

The incident has been widely condemned by members of the community, with many calling for justice for Tinuke. Domestic violence is a serious issue in Nigeria, and incidents like this are a cause for concern.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said that the matter had not been reported to the police. It is unclear whether the couple plans to press charges against Moses for the alleged assault.

Domestic violence is a growing problem in Nigeria, with many cases going unreported due to cultural and societal norms. Victims of domestic violence are urged to seek help and support from organizations that provide counseling and legal assistance.

The incident involving Moses and Tinuke highlights the need for more awareness and education on domestic violence in Nigeria. It is only through collective action and education that we can end the cycle of violence and create a safer and more equitable society for all.
