Yomi Fabiyi Advocates Against Domestic Violence

Nollywood actor, producer, and human rights activist, Yomi Fabiyi, has taken a firm stand against domestic violence, stating that physical assault in a relationship is unacceptable.

News About Nigeria gathered that in a WhatsApp broadcast shared with Potpourri, Fabiyi urged couples to opt for immediate separation when violence becomes a part of the relationship.

“I suggest immediate separation when there’s physical assault in a relationship. Beating your lover turns me off. I have never begged a woman whose husband or fiancé beats to reconcile. It’s not my thing. I don’t fancy such men (even most claim they got provoked),” Fabiyi said in the broadcast.

The actor provided several reasons for his stance, and according to him, violence has serious consequences in relationships.

Speaking on the danger of engaging in domestic violence, he said; “The easiest way to find yourself in body bags is domestic violence with partners.”

Furthermore, Fabiyi warned against the potential legal consequences, noting that even if individuals are not caught, their hands could be stained with blood, making them accomplices to violence.

He added that violence and abuse are capable of destroying the mindset of children who witness them.

According to the actor, only a few of those children will grow up and not believe in violence as a way of solving problems.

He advocated for involving the police immediately if there are signs of violence or provocation, stating that self-control and lawful action are important.

“Thirdly, if kids are involved, it will destroy them. It is serious abuse. Only a small fraction of such children will grow not to believe violence, torture, etc, are means of solving issues.

“Fourth, even if you are not caught, your hands will stain with blood, and you are a murderer if you fight/beat to death,” he said.
