President-elect Bola Tinubu has promised Nigerian workers a “living wage” that would exceed the current minimum wage in a statement released to celebrate International Workers’ Day, News About Nigeria reports.
Tinubu pledged to lead Nigeria to provide workers with sufficient income to support their families and live a decent life.
He assured workers that he would be their dependable ally in their fight for social justice.
The President-elect also acknowledged the close collaboration between workers and nationalists, pro-democracy activists and extended a hand of friendship to them.
Tinubu recognized the importance of International Workers’ Day, which is celebrated every May 1st in Nigeria and around the world.
He pointed out that the day represents the struggle for workers’ rights and socio-economic justice.
The Labour Movement has always been an advocate for the masses of Nigeria, and they have partnered with nationalist leaders like Nnamdi Azikwe, Herbert Macaulay, Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Ernest Ikoli, and Anthony Enahoro, among others.
Tinubu called for better understanding and cooperation from all sides as the days ahead will require tough and hard decisions for the prosperity of Nigeria.
He appealed to the workers to come together with him to combat the various issues that threaten the progress and stability of their nation, such as poverty, ignorance, disease, disunity, ethnic and religious hatred, and other detrimental forces.
In his Renewed Hope Agenda for A Better Nigeria, Tinubu has laid out plans for better welfare and working conditions for Nigerian workers.
He promised to keep his covenant and be a dependable ally for workers. As Nigeria’s President-elect, he pledged to provide workers with more than just a minimum wage. Instead, they would receive a living wage that would enable them to have a decent life and provide for their families.
