UPDATE: Seyi Makinde Links Tuesday's Explosion To Foreign Illegal Miners

The newly elected President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, received a courtesy visit from the Governors of Oyo and Rivers States, Seyi Makinde and Nyesom Wike respectively, at the Defence House on Friday.

The visit comes two months after Tinubu was declared the winner of the presidential election, which both governors supported.

The two G-5 governors had a closed-door meeting with the President-elect, alongside the Chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu; his counterpart in Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, and former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.

After the meeting, Makinde and Wike spoke to the press, urging Nigerians to look beyond the 2023 election and throw their weight behind Tinubu, whom they said could turn around the fortune of the country after the May 29 inauguration, News About Nigeria gathered.

Makinde pledged his support for the incoming administration.

In his words;

“I have come to pay homage to the President-elect and to tell him that elections are over and it is time for governance. We will do our best to give him the support for good governance.”

Meanwhile, Wike called on Nigerians to rally round and give Tinubu the necessary support, adding that he has confidence that Tinubu has what it takes to turn Nigeria around.

The visit by the two governors to Tinubu, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential politicians in Nigeria, has generated a lot of interest and speculation in the country’s political circles.

Some analysts see it as a sign of a possible realignment of political forces ahead of the 2023 general elections, while others believe it is merely a courtesy visit and should not be read too much into.
