The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent socio-political group in Nigeria, has declared that it is not in a rush to congratulate Bola Tinubu as the President-elect, News About Nigeria reports.
The national Vice President of Ohanaeze, Damian Okeke-Ogene, made this statement, saying that the group cannot congratulate Tinubu until the outcome of the court process.
Tinubu was declared the winner of the February 25th general election, but Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the declaration by filing a lawsuit.
The outcome of the court process will determine the legitimacy of Tinubu’s win, and Ohanaeze is not willing to take a stand until the court has made its decision.
The apex Igbo socio-cultural group said it is still awaiting the court’s ruling to determine the real winner of the presidential election.
In explaining the group’s position, Okeke-Ogene stated that “any house built on a faulty foundation is bound to collapse.”
The Ohanaeze believes that the 2023 presidential election process is still ongoing, and the outcome of the court proceedings will determine the next steps.
Until then, the group is unwilling to recognize Tinubu as the President-elect.
This development has raised questions about the future of Nigerian politics, especially with regard to the power struggle between different ethnic groups in the country.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a powerful organization that represents the interests of the Igbo people, who are one of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups.
The group’s stance on Tinubu’s election could be seen as a way of asserting the Igbo people’s influence in Nigerian politics.
