The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, ahead of the upcoming presidential elections in Nigeria.
The announcement came after the formation of a grand coalition, the Obi/Datti Movement, which included several other parties and groups, News About Nigeria reports.
At a gathering attended by the ADC National Chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, and other high-ranking officials, the party’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr. Mani Ibrahim, spoke highly of the Obi/Datti movement, calling it a “worthy cause” and promising to ensure victory for the coalition. He highlighted the need for a third force in Nigerian politics, noting the country’s struggles with corruption and the lack of opportunities for its citizens.
The ADC is one of the many parties and groups that have endorsed the Obi/Datti movement. Other partners in the coalition include the Nigeria Mothers for Good Governance, Fulani United, Nigeria Artisans, League of Imams, Nigeria Traders, Yoruba United, Mega Political Coalition, Kanuris United, Almalgamated Coalitions, CEG Groups, Nigeria Professional Group, DG Global Groups, and Nigeria Legions United.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Labour Party and the ADC. The ADC National Chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, emphasized that the partnership was only a collaboration and not a merger with the Labour Party. He also pledged the ADC’s support for Peter Obi to have more numbers in the National Assembly.
The ADC’s endorsement of the Obi/Datti movement is significant as it adds another powerful voice to the coalition. With the presidential elections looming, the coalition will need all the support it can get to unseat the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The Obi/Datti movement’s promise to bring about positive change and opportunities for all Nigerians has resonated with many, and the ADC’s endorsement only reinforces the movement’s credibility and potential to win the elections.
