Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the Labour Party (LP) has unveiled a new app through which interested individuals can join the party, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the party, the move is aimed at expanding its membership to over 20 million in preparation for the 2027 elections.
The development was made public in a communiqué issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh.
Ifoh, in the statement, also announced a timetable for the Labour Party’s congresses, starting at the ward and state levels, which will run concurrently with the membership revalidation process.
The communiqué partly reads, “In its desire to exceed a membership size of 20 million before the 2027 general elections, the NEC approved the need to expand the party’s membership, and all members are required to revalidate their membership. New members can register online.
“The first phase of this exercise will commence immediately and end on January 31, 2025. This online registration will update the ward register ahead of the congresses. Ward congresses will be held between February and March 2025. Members interested in contesting for positions at the ward level should begin preparations now.”
Speaking on the online registration and forthcoming congress, Ifoh stated that the initiative was aimed at strengthening the party’s presence and boosting its political influence nationwide.
Also speaking in the statement, the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, affirmed the LP’s determination to reposition itself as the largest political party in Nigeria.
He further stated that the party is putting in place strategies to ensure that they maximize the goodwill and support they received in the 2023 general elections.
Abure also pledged the party is commitment to rebuild the country while saying “Nigeria has remained in the doldrums for too long, and we are determined to rescue the nation.”
