The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has arrested and detained officers involved in the extortion of ₦2.3 million from one Ndubuisi Nwosu in Abuja.
News About Nigeria reports that the victim had at the beginning of November accused the officers from Zone 7 in Abuja of extorting N2.3 million from him and forcing him to sell his laptop at the Banex Plaza in Abuja to pay for his bail.
Recounting the ordeal, he wrote, “They came to my house fully armed and accused me of kidnapping, searched my house without a search warrant and found nothing, they took my laptop and emptied my Opay account.
“They took me to Banex Plaza to sell my laptop which I used the money to bail myself out. They provided money point account 8219764152 belonging to Jemcy Enterprise and forcefully took N2,300,000.”
However, in a fresh development on Thursday, the Police in a statement signed by DSP M.B. Abdulkadir, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja revealed that investigations have been carried out on the matter and the culprits detained.
The statement further revealed that the money forcefully collected from Ndubuisi by the officers have been returned to him.
He further noted that the Force has already started disciplining the defaulting officers according to the law.
“The sum of Two Million Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,300,000) has been recovered and returned to Mr. Ndubuisi Nwosu. Further to the earlier statement issued on the alleged extortion of one Mr. Ndubuisi Nwosu by some officers of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, investigation was carried out, the officers allegedly involved in the extortion have been identified and detained, while disciplinary proceedings have commenced against them.”
