Chief Oliver Okpala, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has condemned those calling for the arrest of the National Chairman, stating that the calls are politically motivated.
He made this known in a statement on Monday, noting that those calling for Ganduje’s arrest are disregarding the rule of law by raising issues still pending in court.
News About Nigeria reports that Dr. Johnson Nebechi and Comrade Umar Ideresu, the convener and spokesperson of the National Anti-Corruption Alliance (NACA), had signed a petition requesting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State.
Reacting to this, Okpala maintained that Ganduje will not be intimidated by what he described as anti-corruption impostors.
He stressed that it is basic legal knowledge that issues pending in court should not be taken to law enforcement or anti-corruption agencies, as they remain sub judice.
He further noted that some of the allegations raised by NACA had already been resolved in Ganduje’s favor by the Federal High Court.
He added that the petitioners are members of an unregistered and, therefore, unlawful organization, alleging that their actions were politically motivated and lacked substantive evidence or legal backing.
He stated, “The issues raised in their petition are key points in various cases filed by the Kano State government against Dr. Ganduje, which are still before the courts.
“Nigeria is not a lawless society; the judiciary must be allowed to carry out its job without inhibition or intimidation.
“Government agencies should only engage with reputable, legally recognized organizations.”
