The Government of Anambra State has condemned the deadly attack by unknown gunmen in the Nibo community in Awka South Local Government Area of the State, News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement on Sunday night, the Commissioner for Information in the State, Law Mefor, disclosed that the government has vowed to hunt down the perpetrators of the attack and ensure that they are brought to book.
Recall that at least 10 people were killed on Sunday when gunmen launched the attack in Nibo during the community’s celebration of Onwa Asaa, a traditional festival.
The police have since confirmed the attack but were silent on the casualty figures.
However, in the statement, the commissioner noted that the state government is aware of the killings in the community, adding that it is working towards bringing an end to it and making the perpetrators face the wrath of the law.
The commissioner further related the condolence of the Anambra State Government to the families of the victims and assured them that the government is determined to track down the killers.
He stated that the attack is cult related and called on anyone with useful information on how the perpetrators can be apprehended to not withhold it.
He said, “This is just another instance of the kind of violent crimes linked to cults that have occurred recently, and the state government is determined to put an end to it.”
“To this end, the government appeals to members of the public to avail it of any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators, while assuring them of confidentiality and a handsome reward.”
