Gunmen Assassinate Ogun Councilorship Candidate

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Adekunle Adebajo, also known as “Kunle Poly,” in connection with the murder of a member of a rival cult group in Ijebu Ode.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the arrest followed a distress call received on August 12 from a concerned citizen.

The caller reported a violent clash between rival cult groups in which the victim, identified as ‘Mosquito’, was shot, macheted, and had his left hand severed by his attackers.

The police acted on credible information that led them to Adebajo’s hideout in Isiwo, Ijebu, where he was apprehended at 12:03 a.m. on Saturday.

SP Odutola explained that Adebajo, 34, admitted during interrogation to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.

A subsequent search of Adebajo’s residence uncovered a Beretta pistol with six live rounds of ammunition, two UTC axes, and various charms.

“Upon receiving this information, a team of detectives promptly mobilised and took action by moving to the location, where one suspect, Adekunle Adebajo, aka Kunle Polly, 34, was apprehended.

“During interrogation, Kunle Polly admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

“This prompted a search to be conducted at his residence, leading to the recovery of a Beretta pistol with six live rounds of ammunition, two UTC axes, and charms.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the pattern of severing the left hand of their victims, and to arrest other criminals that fled the hideout,” Odutola stated.

The police are continuing their investigation to understand the motive behind the mutilation of the victim and to track down other suspects who escaped.

Adebajo is currently undergoing a preliminary investigation at the Igbeba Division in Ijebu Ode.

Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu assured the public that efforts are underway to eradicate cultism in the Isiwo Ijebu community. He vowed that all remaining suspects would be brought to justice.
