Protesters from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, converged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This follows a court order that restricted their demonstration to the facility.
News About Nigeria reports that Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the FCT issued an ex-parte order on Wednesday, restricting Abuja protesters from the National Stadium, otherwise known as the MKO Abiola Stadium.
The protesters, however, assembled at the facility at 6 a.m. today chanting solidarity songs in the presence of heavily armed security operatives who were present at the stadium.
Today’s protest against hunger and bad governance in Nigeria is holding despite several pleas by the Federal government for Nigerians to shelve the nationwide planned protest.
In their defense, the FG had noted that there is no need for the protest as they are working tirelessly towards delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
They also noted that instead of protest which can lead to violence, Nigerians should embrace dialogue which will in turn bring lasting solutions to the challenges.
Speaking after a closed-door session of senators in Abuja yesterday (Wednesday), the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio urged Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led government because one year is not enough for them to implement all their policies.
While noting that President Tinubu is willing to dialogue and also meet the demands of Nigerians, Akpabio noted that the signing of the new National Minimum Wage Act, the sale of crude oil to local refiners in Naira, and the implementation of the Students Loan Act are clear proofs that the President is working tirelessly to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
