Man Arrested For Attempted Suicide After Climbing Broadcast Mast In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested and detained a man identified as Shuaibu Yushau for attempted suicide.

News About Nigeria reported that Yushau climbed a broadcast mast owned by Aso Television and Radio in the Katampe area of Abuja on Monday to protest against insecurity and hardship in the country.

The incident was captured in a video shared by @TheSerahIbrahim, showing Yushau perched on the transmission tower while first responders tried to persuade him to climb down.

The video also showed the presence of police officers, press members, and a crowd of onlookers, all urging Yushau to abandon his plan and come down safely.

One of the first responders, while pleading with Yushau, promised to deliver his message to President Bola Tinubu.

She commended his patriotism and concern for the nation’s affairs, hoping to convince him not to harm himself.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, released a statement detailing the incident.

The statement, titled “Aso Radio Mast Climbing: Man Arrested for Attempted Suicide,” revealed that Yushau had been observing the mast for about a week before deciding to climb it.

“Following a distress call from concerned citizens about a young man who climbed a very high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe at about 09:10 a.m, the operatives of the FCT Police Command swiftly mobilised to the location. With much professional persuasion from the police operatives, the man later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was prevented from taking his own life,” Adeh stated.

Yushau is currently in police custody and is reported to be in stable condition.
