Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said that the judiciary is no longer the last hope of the common man in Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.
Speaking during the groundbreaking of the N37 billion construction of the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court Complex at Daki-Biyu, which is facilitated by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the Minister lamented the fact that the judiciary is now for politicians and other influential people in the country.
Fagbemi further noted that it is clear from the election tribunal that the judiciary is now primarily doing the work of politicians and other rich people in the country.
He further noted that it was in the past that the judiciary was indeed the hope of the masses in the country.
He said, “Gone were those days when the judiciary was regarded as the last hope of the common man. I take objection to it. It is the big people now who patronise the judiciary, not even the common man. If you have any doubt, the election is approaching, come and see the way, with all due respect, some people behave like rain-beaten chickens. Forgive me, I don’t mean to be rude. So, the judiciary is no longer the last hope of the common man alone, it is also, or majorly now, the last hope of the big shots.”
Despite the Minister’s submission about the judiciary, he expressed hope that the complex would be for truthful exposure and protection of people’s rights.
Fagbemi further stated that his administration is working towards sanitising the Nigerian judiciary and taking it back to its original assignment of upholding justice and being the last hope of the common man.
