The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) have all canvassed support for their candidates ahead of the gubernatorial election slated for September 21, 2024, News About Nigeria reports.
The PDP Deputy Director General, Media and Publicity of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, Rev. Olu Martins, lauded former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was on an official visit to the state, for his role in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
He urged the people to vote for Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie so that they could continue the work Governor Godwin Obaseki started in the state.
The candidate of the ADC, Derek Izedonmwen, while speaking in his democracy message on Wednesday, urged the people to remember that the labours of the heroes of the past are not in vain.
He urged the citizens of the state to reaffirm their commitment to democracy and work together to unite and build the state to greater heights.
“On this occasion, we pay tribute to all pro-democracy activists whose unwavering commitment and significant sacrifices were instrumental in restoring our democracy when it was derailed. It is our solemn duty, therefore, to ensure that their labour was not in vain.
“As we move forward, every Nigerian must be ready to defend and nurture our democracy. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this democratic tradition is upheld and passed on to those who will come after us and inherit our great nation.
“Let us all, as citizens of Edo State and Nigeria, reaffirm our commitment to a democratic ethos that builds, unites, and prospers. May we continue to thrive under the banner of democracy and may this day inspire us all to greater heights of nation-building,” he stated.
