Suicide Bomber Detonates Bomb In Borno, Kills Self, Injures Two

An unidentified male suicide bomber has reportedly detonated an improvised explosive device strapped to his body near a mosque in Biu Local Government of Borno State, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the state public relations officer, ASP Daso Nahum, who confirmed the incident on Monday, two other people also sustained varying injuries.

Nahum also revealed that the victims had been rushed to the hospital.

He said the incident occurred at about 8 pm on Sunday while the Muslim faithful were observing their night prayers.

The Police PRO noted that the suicide bomber was suspected to be heading to the mosque, where Muslim faithful were holding their prayers before the bomb detonated.

The police, in response to the incident, deployed officers to the scene in order to restore calm as residents were already panicking.

He said, “The male suicide bomber, who was suspected to be heading to the mosque, detonated the improvised explosive device close to the roundabout, killing himself. Two passersby who were wounded by the explosive were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.

“A combined team of security personnel was immediately deployed to the scene of the incident to restore normalcy.”

The police boss, therefore, urged the people to be vigilant, especially during this period of Ramadan when most Muslim faithful are observing late-night prayers.

“People should make sure that they are vigilant and should not hesitate to report any suspicious moves to the security agencies,” he stated.

He also promised that the police would work tirelessly towards ensuring that they secured the lives and properties of the people.
