At least seven students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, have reportedly died from a stampede while struggling to get rice, News About Nigeria reports.

It was gathered that students of the school, had allegedly broken into the warehouse where the food items were kept to be distributed as palliative by the state government on Friday.

According to reports, this has wrestled with and overpowered the security agents stationed at the institution and afterwards, gained entrance into the warehouse, scrambling for the palliative.

It was also gathered that some students who were billed to benefit from the Nasarawa state government palliative distribution, had been issued I.D cards to admit them into the venue where the distribution was to take place.

The palliative distribution have, however, been put on hold for now.

Recall that a similar incident happened in Lagos in February, when seven persons were reportedly killed during the sale of foodstuffs at the NCS old Zonal headquarters in Yaba area of Lagos State.

Nigeria Customs had said it was selling seized food items at N10,000 per 25kg to alleviate the people’s suffering as a result of the current high cost of living and other economic hardships.

However, a pregnant woman and six others reportedly died in a stampede after some suspected hoodlums attempted to force their way into the Yaba Customs office compound, and despite spirited efforts by officers to assure the people that the service was out of stock, the crowd continued to grow.

The Customs also extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the unfortunate incident.
