Osun: CSOs Protest Economic Hardship

The Coalition of Civil Societies (CSOs) in Osun State has carried out a protest over the economic hardship in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

Members of the coalition took to the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday after converging at the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo around 7:30 am, despite the early morning rain in the town.

The chairman of the coalition, Comrade Waheed Lawal, noted that the protest was to inform President Bola Tinubu of the grievances of Nigerians over the worsening economic hardship in the country.

“This is just an awareness for the protest that will come up on Monday. We are mobilising to the streets to make those in government realise that Nigerians are dying of hunger.

“We, therefore, use this opportunity to urge residents of the state to fully prepare for the protest against hunger for those in authority to find a solution to the problem they created in the country,” he said.

Speaking also, the Director of Ola-Oni Socio Research, Comrade Wale Adebisi, berated the federal government under President Tinubu for causing hardship for Nigerians through his subsidy removal and forex policy without adequate palliative measures.

He stated that the hard period Nigerians are experiencing is a result of a lack of economic planning from the government, adding that it is unfortunate that kidnapping is still going on unabated with the payment of ransom despite the cries from the people.

“How can the government float the naira and at the same time remove subsidy without any plan for palliative. There is no social intervention, no social empowerment, and the government just allows people to be exposed to poverty, hunger, and hopelessness,” Comrade Adebisi further lamented.
