Residents of Ikate, Lagos, have raised an alarm over a significant fire outbreak in the area.
Videos posted by various accounts on X showed flames and smoke, which indicated a serious incident.
As of the time of filing this report, detailed information about the incident are unavailable.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined.
It is noteworthy that there has been an increase in fire outbreaks across the country.
In January, News About Nigeria reported that a fire broke out at the 10-storey Mandilas Building situated on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The inferno destroyed numerous items and properties, with estimated losses amounting to several million naira.
The incident, which occurred around 1:15 p.m., occurred when businesses were yet to commence operations for the day.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire started in a warehouse on the building’s first floor before quickly spreading to higher levels.
Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that there were no reported casualties in the incident.
Prompt response teams, including personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the police, and other emergency responders, were at the scene to combat the fire.
The affected traders, who later arrived at the scene, were observed salvaging whatever goods and valuable items they could retrieve from the engulfed building.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be fully assessed, and investigations into the cause of the incident are underway.
