Gunmen Abduct Schoolchildren In Ekiti

Unidentified gunmen have reportedly abducted an undisclosed number of schoolchildren in the Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

News About Nigeria gathered that the incident, which occurred on Monday evening, involved students from Apostolic Faith School who were travelling from Emure Ekiti to Eporo Ekiti on their school bus.

According to a post on Ekiti Trends’ X account on Tuesday, the students fell victim to the gunmen’s attack during their journey.

The exact number of abducted children remains undisclosed as authorities work to gather more information about the incident.

This comes on the heels of another tragic incident on Monday when suspected gunmen, believed to be herdsmen, targeted and killed two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

The victims were identified as the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area.

The traditional rulers met their unfortunate end while returning from a meeting, with reports indicating that another monarch, the Alara of Ara in Ikole LG, narrowly escaped abduction.

Sources cited by Oodua News revealed that the armed herdsmen intercepted the traditional rulers, opened fire, and took their personal belongings before dragging their lifeless bodies into the nearby bush.

The motive behind this attack is yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to step aside if he finds the responsibility of leading Nigeria too challenging.

Atiku’s statement comes as he criticises Tinubu’s recent private visit to France while the nation battles insecurity.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Atiku expressed his concern over the state of the country’s security.

He said that Tinubu was playing the fiddle while Nigeria faced increasing challenges.
