Gunmen Kill Two Traditional Rulers In Ekiti State

On Monday, suspected gunmen believed to be herdsmen targeted and killed two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

The unfortunate event occurred between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in the Ajoni Local Government Area of the state, News About Nigeria gathered.

The victims, identified as the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area, met their tragic end while returning from a meeting.

Reports suggest that another monarch, the Alara of Ara in Ikole LG, narrowly escaped when the armed bandits intercepted them and attempted to forcefully abduct them.

According to sources cited by Oodua News, the armed herdsmen stopped the traditional rulers, opened fire, and took their personal belongings before dragging their lifeless bodies into the nearby bush.

The motive behind the attack is yet to be confirmed.

In a related incident on Sunday night, bandits abducted a newlywed couple in Madabanciya village, Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State.

Ibrahim Sani, an indigene of the area, recounted that the bandits arrived on foot, leaving their motorcycles outside the village around 11:45 p.m.

The armed men, equipped with sophisticated weapons, began shooting sporadically upon their arrival.

The bandits reportedly went from house to house, looting food items, and valuables while also seizing a large number of animals.

In the course of their activities, they met the newly married couple and forcibly took them to the forest.

The source lamented the absence of security operatives in the village, despite the prevalent security challenges in the state, leaving the residents vulnerable to such attacks on their lives and property.
