Prof. Wole Soyinka has revealed that his visit to President Bola Tinubu was an embarrassing one, stating that he had an encounter with the president some years ago, News About Nigeria reports.
The Nobel Laureate disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the President in Lagos on Sunday.
Soyinka noted that he had dissuaded the President from running for the presidency when he met him five years ago, adding that President Bola Tinubu had turned deaf ears to his counsel of leaving the presidential race for the young ones and went ahead to run for the seat of presidency.
He stated that his visit was to check up on the president and his family, know how they were faring, and finding the job of transforming Nigeria from what it was to a better place.
He further stated that he was going to give President Bola Tinubu his scorecard after a year in office, adding that it was his policy to refrain from scoring the government until after spending a year in office.
He maintained that he adopted this policy because he discovered that when a new government comes into power, they have to start from scratch in making policies and putting things in place to make their impact in the country.
The elder statesman further revealed that he went to see President Bola Tinubu with a seven-point agenda he came up with, which when implemented, will according to him, aid in steering the country away from chaos and turmoil and bring the country to par with other developed countries in the world.
