A potential fire accident was averted on Tuesday when a petrol-loaded tanker fell around Stadium Bridge, heading towards Ojuelegba in Surulere, Lagos State.

News About Nigeria gathered that the accident was attributed to brake failure on the part of the tanker truck.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this information in a statement made available to the press.

According to the statement, LASTMA operatives and other emergency responders swiftly acted to prevent a potential petroleum fire explosion on Stadium Bridge, along the route to Barracks/Ojuelegba on Funsho Williams Avenue, Surulere, Lagos.

Taofiq mentioned that pertinent agencies, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, were immediately summoned to the scene to prevent any fire-related catastrophe.

“Mr. Adebayo confirmed that in order to prevent another imminent fire explosion, LASTMA Officials as first emergency responders after arriving at the scene immediately called other emergency responders particularly the Lasema Response Unit and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services.

“Traffic Officer Olukoga Olajide who led LASTMA rescue operations to the scene confirmed that the driver of the falling Coniol tanker, Sefiyu Adamu, was arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation.”

In response to the incident, the truck’s driver, identified as Sefiyu Adamu, was arrested and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

It is worth noting that the Lagos State Government had previously imposed restrictions on trucks, including petroleum tanker drivers, prohibiting them from using the Ojuelegba, Stadium, and Dorma-long bridges to mitigate the risk of further accidents on these routes.
