Israel-Hamas War: FG Calls For Ceasefire

Published

on

The President Bola Tinubu-led government has called for a ceasefire in the ongoing dispute between Islamic Sect Hamas and Israeli forces.

Making this call in a statement on Saturday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, said President Tinubu’s government was deeply concerned with the hostilities between Israeli forces and the Hamas Islamic sect.

Mr Tuggar warned that the current cycle of violence and retaliation will only cause an unending cycle of pain for citizens of both Israel and Gaza.

The federal government however called on both parties to exercise restraint and put the interest of their citizens before the dispute.

News About Nigeria recalls that former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani had urged the President Bola Tinubu-led government to condemn the attack on Israel.

Earlier reports had detailed that members of Hamas sect had launched an attack on Israel, killing citizens of the country and holding many others hostages.

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode had condemned the attack on Israel suggesting that Hamas should be wiped out of the surface of the earth.

However, there have been cease-fire calls from prominent world leaders as the dispute continues to escalate.

Reports suggest that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and the United Nations have asked both parties in the ongoing conflict to consider a cease-fire.

Hamas militia had, in the early hours of Saturday, initiated an unprovoked attack on Israel firing rockets into the neighbouring nation with its fighters infiltrating and killing citizens of Israel.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on the neighbouring nation as he called for a mobilization of army reserves.
