An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to raise the proposed 8,000 Naira palliative for impoverished Nigerians to 20,000 Naira, News About Nigeria reports.

This appeal comes after Tinubu announced plans to allocate 8,000 Naira to 12 million underprivileged households across the country.

President Tinubu‘s proposal, revealed in a letter to the House of Representatives concerning the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s request for an 800 million dollar loan for the social safety net program, outlined a six-month timeline for the disbursement of the funds to deserving citizens.

However, Igbokwe took to his Facebook page on Friday afternoon to express his concerns.

He stated that while 8,000 Naira might be inconsequential to some Nigerians, it holds significant value for others.

In light of this, Igbokwe advised the government to elevate the monetary assistance to 20,000 Naira to ensure it adequately reaches those who truly require it.

The appeal by the APC chieftain echoes the sentiment of many who believe that increasing the amount of the palliative will offer a more substantial lifeline to those grappling with the economic challenges imposed by the ongoing pandemic and other socioeconomic factors.

The call for a higher palliative amount has sparked discussions among policymakers and members of the public, with proponents emphasizing the urgent need to alleviate the financial burden faced by vulnerable Nigerians.

As the nation grapples with various economic and social issues, the government faces the task of finding a balance between available resources and the pressing needs of its citizens.
