The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has issued prison sentences to five individuals convicted of engaging in internet fraud.

The offenders faced separate charges brought against them by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

News About Nigeria reports that the convicted individuals have been identified as Aladekomo Samuel from Ado-Ekiti, Mustapha Bashir from Ilorin West Local Government Area, Sulyman Mustapha from Okene, as well as Adedayo Samuel and Adeoye Olalekan, both students at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin.

Presiding over the case, Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar expressed his conviction that the prosecution had successfully presented evidence against the defendants, justifying their conviction and subsequent sentencing.

Mustapha Bashir was also sentenced to six months of suspended imprisonment, with the Infinix Hot phone, which he used in the commission of the crime, being confiscated by the Federal Government.

Adedayo Samuel and Adeoye Olalekan received six-month prison terms, but were given the option of fines amounting to N100,000 and N150,000, respectively. Furthermore, they are required to forfeit all funds in their bank accounts.

Sulyman Mustapha was sentenced to six months in prison, with the option of paying a N50,000 fine. Additionally, he was ordered to relinquish the iPhone XR, which was used in the execution of the crime, to the Federal Government.
