The All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to postpone its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to accommodate the participation of President Bola Tinubu, News About Nigeria has learnt.
Originally scheduled for Monday, the party has rescheduled both the National Caucus and NEC meetings to July 18th and 19th, respectively.
This decision was announced by the National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore, in a statement released on Sunday evening.
The postponement was deemed necessary due to President Tinubu’s regional and sub-regional commitments as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The last time the APC NEC convened was in April 2022, when it delegated decision-making authority to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
However, this transfer of power did not sit well with some party members. Salihu Lukman, the national vice chairman (North-west), has persistently advocated for the NEC meeting to be held and even resorted to legal action against Abdulahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, accusing them of unilaterally running the party without consulting the other NWC members.
Lukman argued that such actions violated the party’s constitution.
Adamu, in addition to the internal disputes, recently engaged in a confrontation with the leadership of the National Assembly regarding the appointment of principal officers.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the names of the new principal officers for their respective chambers, which led to a disagreement with Adamu and the NWC.
However, this conflict was later resolved after a meeting with the president.
