Tinubu’s Emergence as ECOWAS Chairman Garners Former President Buhari’s Support, News About Nigeria reports.
In a gesture of goodwill, former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his congratulations to President Bola Tinubu on his recent election as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The announcement of Tinubu’s appointment came during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, which took place in Guinea-Bissau.
News About Nigeria reports that according to a statement released by Buhari’s spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, the former President expressed his delight upon learning of Tinubu’s election during the session held in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
Buhari acknowledged the weighty responsibility placed on Tinubu’s shoulders as the leader of the West African community and encouraged citizens to lend their support, ensuring that Tinubu does not falter.
“I pray the Almighty will guide Tinubu’s tenure as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government, leading to the restoration of ECOWAS as a stronghold of democracy, good governance, and a leader in combating terrorism and climate change across the continent,” Buhari stated.
It is worth noting that Buhari himself passed the torch to Tinubu on May 29th of this year, having served his maximum two terms of eight years as president.
With this passing of the baton, Buhari’s endorsement of Tinubu’s ascension carries significant weight within Nigeria and the broader West African region.
As he takes the helm, all eyes are on Tinubu to steer ECOWAS towards achieving its objectives and fostering regional stability, security, and economic development.
