Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja has taken the decision to expel a total of 313 students from the institution due to their poor academic performance during the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic session, News About Nigeria reports.

The announcement was made by Mrs. Uredo Omale, the Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the polytechnic.

The decision to expel the students was made following a thorough review of the report presented by the Academic Board Central Result Verification Committee during their meeting on June 22, 2023.

The affected students represent a wide range of departments and programs offered at the institution.

The highest number of withdrawn students, 43 in total, belonged to the ND1 Office Technology and Management program.

They were closely followed by 39 students from the ND1 Public Administration program and 28 students from the ND1 Information and Library Science program.

Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman, the Rector of the Polytechnic and the chairperson of the Board, explained that this decision was made in order to maintain a high academic standard and cultivate outstanding academic ambassadors.

He emphasized the importance of students utilizing the available learning facilities to excel in their chosen fields of study.

In addition to focusing on academic performance, the Rector also stressed the significance of students adhering to the rules and regulations of the institution.

He urged them to refrain from engaging in any form of social vices both on and off campus.

Dr. Usman expressed his gratitude to the Chairman, members of the Central Result Verification Committee, and the entire Academic Board for their continuous support and commitment to upholding academic excellence.
