The Kano State House of Assembly has responded to the circulating reports regarding the potential amendment of the State’s Emirate Council Law in order to reinstate the deposed Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II.

News About Nigeria reports that the Assembly has categorically dismissed these claims as “concocted fake news.”

Additionally, they have refuted speculations suggesting that they plan to remove the five New Emirs of Gaya, Bichi, Rano, and Karaye to grant full control of the Kano Emirates to the dethroned Emir Sanusi II.

Recently, social media platforms have been flooded with rumors indicating that the Assembly is set to reexamine the matter of the Kano Emirates.

According to these speculations, the Kano Emirates Amendment Bill of 2023 would be presented by Lawan Hussaini, the majority leader and representative of the Dala constituency, on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

It was reported that the Assembly would discuss and approve this amendment, ultimately leading to the removal of the current emirs and the reinstatement of Khalifa Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, pending the assent of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

However, Lawan Hussaini, in a press conference following the plenary session, vehemently denied these claims, referring to them as false.

He made it abundantly clear that there had been no intention for him to present such an amendment, as the matter had not been brought up for discussion.

The majority leader pointed out that the individuals spreading these rumors were those who sought to disrupt the peace within the state.

This firm denial by the majority leader, Lawan Hussaini, aims to dispel any doubts or confusion regarding the Assembly’s intentions and actions.

The Assembly said they are dedicated to upholding the established Emirate Council Law and ensuring that any decisions made regarding the emirs are in accordance with due process and legal procedures.
