Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has made the decision to step down from his role as a member of the 10th House, News About Nigeria reports.

This move comes after his recent appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

In a momentous act, Gbajabiamila tendered his resignation letter on Wednesday while addressing the House.

The letter was then read aloud by the newly elected Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, ensuring that all members were informed of the decision.

As a symbol of respect and gratitude, the former Speaker took a final bow before the new Speaker and his colleagues, bidding farewell to the chamber that had been his workplace for many years.

The lawmakers responded with resounding cheers and a standing ovation, acknowledging his contributions and achievements.

Throughout his extensive career as a legislator in the House, Gbajabiamila held significant positions such as Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker, showcasing his dedication and leadership skills.

He was reelected to represent the Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State, securing the trust and support of his constituents.

Following his reelection, he took the oath of office alongside his fellow representatives during the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his political journey.

The decision to resign from the House was undoubtedly a difficult one for Gbajabiamila, as he had established a long-standing presence and reputation within the legislative body.

However, his new appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu presented an opportunity for him to serve in a different capacity, directly supporting the President in his duties and responsibilities.
