Former Anambra Central Senatorial District representative in the sixth National Assembly, Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo, has passed away at the age of 63, News About Nigeria reports.
It is reported that Okonkwo succumbed to a brief illness on Wednesday, despite being on the path to recovery.
He died in a hospital in the United States.
This unfortunate event occurs just a few days before the inauguration of his son, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, who is the newly elected member of the House of Representatives for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), served as a dedicated representative for his district during the Sixth National Assembly from 2007 to 2011.
In addition to his political career, he contested the governorship position during the 2010 election in the state, but was unsuccessful in defeating the incumbent governor, Peter Obi, who was re-elected.
The family of the late senator has yet to release an official statement regarding his demise, leaving many to mourn the loss of a respected figure in Anambra politics.
